How to be a more patient (and happy) person

In today’s society, it can be a challenge to practice patience in all facets of life. Much can be said about the factors that have led to this, but there is no denying that many or most adults may find themselves lacking patience whether at work, at home, in the car, and so on.

Slowing down and finding ways to calm down will help not only improve one’s patience but will also lead to them leading a less stressful and in turn, happy, life. A 2017 article from Inc. provides a short but very useful set of tips for being more patient. The first tip suggests making yourself wait:

The best way to practice patience is to make yourself wait. A study published in Psychological Science shows that waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. Start with something small like waiting a few extra minutes to drink that milkshake and then move on to something bigger. You will begin to gain more patience as you practice.
